Not quite sure if I understand the problem??…..
Pedal was solid but now ok...…...are you able to see if the slave cylinder is moving the release arm?
You can engage the gears but no drive when pedal is let up/clutch engaged?
If the clutch disc was rusted to the pressure plate and/or flywheel it would move when started in gear even if clutch pedal was depressed.
Could it be that the clutch disc has broken up as a result of it rusting to the flywheel and being abruptly freed off?
