Plenty of fluid first (I've started using diesel to soak things lately)
Then have the strut tight in a vice and use a big pair of stilsons and some scaffold pipe.
I've had ones off that looked like they'd been in the sea
And be careful if you turn the strut upside down once the shock is out.
Been a few times lots of greasy dirty water has tried to give me a bath
