Easy way to test the starter in situ is to pull off the spade terminal to the solenoid and then simply connect 12volts to it via a short to the main power cable that cranks the starter over.
Just make sure youre not in gear.....squishy sounds would emanate from underside if not careful.
Should crank the engine over if you do the above if the starters ok.
