I have the SonyEricsson XPERIA X10i, it was not scheduled for Gingerbread but SE gave in to the community and released an update to 2.3.3.
I also read on the SE blog recently that SE have donated programming assistance and hardware to a group of MOD's on XDA in an attempt to support the community.
Anyways, the community on XDA already work on releasing ICS for a large number of phones and they will most likely succeed well ahead of the official releases. Seriously, how many people upgrade their phones unless they have problems with it, and then it's most likely to be done by a service centre ;-)
90% of the owners don't care about software as long as the phone and SMS part works..
