bit late on this but......
256 mms 100 pcd golf discs on the front with the calipers from a 256 equipped 90 /Coupe ( probably a B3 as well ?? ) will be bolt on. I did this a few years ago. I didn't change the master cylinder but as far as I can see it only means that you have a very slightly longer push on the pedal to move the fluid . I sourced my rebuilt calipers from the local Motor Factor ( i expect GSF etc etc do the same ) so they were 'new' and charged me £40 surcharge until I took the old ones back. I think the whole job ended up at about £120 - £140 mark , including new pads fluid etc etc
I too thought about rear discs but was told not to worry, they are 200mms and mine survived a couple of track days without too much protest
I would still like to swop my type 81 to 108 mms pcd though .............
