Yes, definitely screen out job to do it propery. At least it's easy on cars like that. You haven't got a bonded screen to worry about.
Best to catch it now before it gets worse. I took the tailgate glass out of my 1986 Fiesta because of less rust than that. It wasn't even showing from outside the car. Was only visible in the form of a slight rust stain inside the car. By sorting it now when it only needed rubbing down and painting with rust proof paint, I've probably saved the tailgate from needing welding repairs in a couple of years, and it's a shame to let them get that bad, especially old cars because they'll never make em like that again, more's the pity.
