Some will, some won't. The 90amp ones always seem to do it. There was a change to the harmonic damper 'pulley' as well that made the alternator spin faster on later cars.
ETKA tells porkies about alternators. When Simon Gilmore's failed in Heidelberg none of the versions listed in ETKA would fit and Bosch was out of stock - so they rebuilt his old one overnight. Bosch service in Germany is nothing short of stunning.
