Hey,

I'm about to start a TDi engine swap into my 1986 80 GL but I don't think the present ratios are ideal for the TDi.

Currently when doing and indicated 70 the engine is at ~2900RPM.

Is there 'box from another car (maybe a later 80 or passat?) that will fit and will have better ratios?

I suppose one thing that may have an influence is that my 80 has a cable clutch at the moment, but I am assuming most of the later 'boxes will have hydraulic clutches, so how hard is it to convert my 80 to hydraulic clutch?

Any help much appreciated.
