Having said that, I did wonder why the dampers had oily residue on out side of them when i took them out to inspect them.
However, I seem to have cures the 'creaking' noise when turning the wheel, I simply removed the nut off the top of the strut, pushed the wishbone down with a long piece of wood, so the top of the damper was free of the top mount, & then I made sure the little seating washer/Colet was pushed as far as it would go in to the bottom of the top mount bearing. I then guided te strut back up in to the top mount, put the top nut back on & lowered the car. And then I tightened it all up.
Seems to have stopped the metal on metal creaking, so that's good

But now tho, on the other side I still have the sound of the coil spring playing a tune every time I turn the wheels..
How do I stop that? its only on the one side.
