I guess if you're going for track day lightness and bumper to bumper style driving then plastics would be better.

The Jap scene uses these bolt on styles which look pretty good on the right car. Here's an ebay link to a completed auction but the guy might be able to help.

G60 are also an option but they are bonded instead of riveted and getting them to look right - even on a Golf can be a pain.
