was looking at getting an engine rebuild - but there are some horror...

I was fortunate enough to deal with alternator cable several years ago - I made sure it had a sleeve of Kevlar protecting it as it passed through the chassis leg -

one thing that did alarm me...

Unfortunately she is beyond repair - not only did the fire destroy the engine bay it also took the interior and dashboard - I will put more pics up...

What I can tell you is that it was a fuel fire - I am not 100% what caused it but looking through the photos, the fire was concentrated around the FI metering head - and if you zoom in on the pic...

Check the sender first - the 'can' type thing RHS of engine ( as you look at it) there are 2 connections but only one of them used.

Unscrew it...

If you can get hold of anybody with VCDS it would help - at least you could see where the problem is. My B4 went sluggish - checked the pump timing and found out it was out, so slackened the 3 bolts...
