You really only need to separate them if the keyway on the crank pulley is damaged / cracked. If you use the locking tool and previous attempts have used it, there should be no reason to disturb.

Wonder if the digifant ecu is not capable of sending out blink codes.

Pretty sure I've had vcds running on an ABK many years ago so you can pull errors - just not using the blink method.

You shouldn't need to remove any of the items you listed. You'll need the car up in the air to undo the exhaust where it joins the manifold.

Apart from that everything is done from the top once...
