Still need to find out which is which, probably going to end up a case of trial and error.

Ur quattro flywheel sensors

One plugs into the ECU loom, the other into the engine loom. Not sure which way around they should be as the connections appear to be identical, can anyone help?

Car is a 1981 WR.

Unfortunately the B2 coupe alternator is different, single front mounting/pivot point as opposed to two on a B3 (front and rear):

As it doesn't contain a filter element and is really just a chambered sediment trap, it's very easy to fill and back flush (off the car of course) with hot soapy...

From my own experience, the JS code 2 litre engine is probably one of the sweetest n/a 5 cylinder engines Audi did, difference in performance on the road between it and the 2.2 is very little.

This sounds like it could be a case of a stuck clutch plate.

Put it in gear with the engine off and rock the car backwards and forwards until it releases, or easier still pull it with another car...
