apologies for the possible sacriledge.....

been reading up on this in a few places (and bothering people for help), used the search etc. I already have a spec'd AEB which is why I'm looking for a coupe quattro but can't find anyone over here who has got one up and running in a B3 or B4. Would be great to get some concrete info on it, while I understand that the 5 pot 'boxes have multi fit bellhousings for 4 and 5 pot engines, I have read that the input shaft from the 'box is too long for the 1.8t.....on a total tangent I have read that some of the V6 bellhousings are a suitable pattern for 1.8t fitment!!

Can anyone please give some solid info?:cryin:

5 cylinderand 4 cylinder quattro boxes have different bellhousings..... Not a multifitment sadly.

A type89 4cylinder quattro is what you'd need.

So is it the non quattro boxes that are dual fitment bellhousing....or stateside equipment only?

I promise I'm not making it up....5th post down if I am not misreading correctly.

No Idea what the yanks got but i can guarentee a 4cylinder bellhousing differs from a 5cylinder by a bit... I have both here, a 4cylinder 016 quattro box and enough 5 cylinders to run a rally team!

I dont think audi has ever made a mulitfitment box.... It doesnt seem logical from a manufacturer perspective.

I guess it must be stateside then - even got an email from one of the stateside audi nuts stating that '88 on boxes are dual fitment. Gutted.

4 pot quattro's seem to be even more difficult to get hold of.

Ok then, one for ya......will a four pot quattro 'box bolt straight up in place of a 5 pot one?

If its an 016 or 01e ( i think for typ89) then yes.... modern quattro is actually haldex and different layout (sorry if you know this just clarifying the points incase)....

Something like an audi 80 Quattro or coupe quattro with a 16v will have right box but very hard to come by as you say.... I'm not sure on condition of my 4 cylinder gearbox otherwise i'd be happy to sell it on...

I have swapped all gearsets with CQ typ85 ones (the bellhousing casing is different but the gearset casings are identical.) If your really struggling i'll give mine a clean and an inspect for you :)

Only the transverse mounted 'boxes are Haldex (that's the rear diff), the longitudibnal ones still use mechnaical Torsen system. A quattro box from an A4 quattro (5 or 6speed available) would be a good plan as only mod req'd would be possible minor fiddling with the mounts.
May need to check on compatibilty of gear ratios with existing rear diff but that's not too dificult to check.
Should make a nice car, the 1.8T is a very tunebale engine and very light.
I ADORE the 5-pots but the 1.8T would make a very good sensible choice for a rapid 80! SHorter, lighter and more powerful.... Keep us updated!
