I figure it's only fair that I post a car many of the forum members covet.
So many are posted over there that we didn't get or can't equitably ship overseas. Still, a rare car even here. Enjoy Its in Oregon not Colorado http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/1473278635.html |
that looks good,so are they that rare in the USA
|
Oh yes.
I've only seen photos of maybe 5. Rumor is, about 500 made between 1981 and 1983. Mostly 1982 just before the Coupe was released. |
so my old girl is quite rare then,i think it may be the only one in the UK i'm trying to find more info out on the car just sent off a form to the DVLA asking for wot info they have on the car i know it was first
registered over here in 1993 once i have that i will see if i can find out about it's history in the USA |
are they Scirocco Scala wheels?
aren't you tempted by it Matt? |
The wheels in the US are called "snowflakes".
Mostly these wheels appeared on our Mk1 GTI's and Cabrios. Yes I'm tempted but it's nearly 3500 miles away. |
Coxy I seem to think that these wheels were also called "avus".

I don't know the exact numbers MSH. They were low, either way and mostly confined to the 1982 model year. Also mostly to North America.
Coxy and I have discussed this a little. Maybe we should do the research and resolve it for interest sake. The 2dr cars are mostly sought after for the doors and A pillars as I understand it. The can be cut out to make a Sport Quattro SWB out of a UrQ. The angle of the windscreen was taken from these 2dr's instead of the Coupe because of solar glare. The Coupe/Ur body looks great but the sun comes into the upper corner like a laser. So, a dedicated fabricator can make a budget Sport Quattro from an Ur and a 2dr 4000. I understand the sentiment. But its a shame to cut up such a rare car for the doors. They were a great little car. Torqy motor, good mpg. 30-40 A few survive as whole cars. Most are the 1.8 four cylinder motor that was in the 80 Sport. Very few (some suggest only 120 Quattros) are the 5+5 Quattro. 5 cyl. and 5 speed. I only now of one in existense in Canada. Super cool car. The attached is the 1983 80Q in Canada. Originally bought out of Europe. This one although high mileage, is from a low rust area of the US. It has several "Euro" upgrades and has been driven and maintained. |
