I'm thinking of fitting some off road tires on the cq for the winter. :smilewinkgrin:

I'm thinking something chunky, that will be good for going up and down hills in the soft and hard snow and the muddy slush. :nod:

last year I simply used the conventional road tires that came with the car.. & excellent as the yokohamas were in the dry and rain, they were not so good in the snow , and i almost got myself stuck a few times while taking the CQ down various back lanes where no one else had dared to go before me. :nono: :lol: :o

any ideas? :idea:

I used to use 185 mud and snow tyres in Winter on steel rims after I slid off in bad snow following a poxy fiesta with 135 tyres. They made a massive difference though not as grippy on dry roads and saved the alloys from the Winter salt. Used for several years until the car had its restoration and as now on SORN during Winter are never used apart from when I fit them whilst taking the alloys off for a clean. Might be tempted to part with them though may need new tyres now that they are 9 years old:eek:.

Get Vredestein Quatrac.

All round tyres, for winter (snow) and summer, and you don't need to change them too. I am getting them on the 100 quattro in the next 4 weeks or so.

Us Brits drive round on summer tyres all year round, and they are less than optimal for grip below about 9 deg C or so............

I have Sportrac on the 100
HiTrac on the 80
Comtrac on the Caravelle.

Love them all.

But think the Hankook are better than the Quatrac all season tyres.

Should be good tyres.

I've had really good luck with Gislaved (sp?) from Sweden.
They know snow, and they have good x-over capability for the dryer and warmer days at the beginning of the season when it can't make up it's mind.

Hard to get in the US now.
Used Hakkapolitas and Nokians.
Both great in the snow, but not so in the better weather.

Hehehehe yes 20 inches really restricts what I can have :wall: But i have used them before but not on the beastie......................I will let you know how they perform :p
