1800cc Audi 100's. How many left?
 

I was thinking the other day (yes really!) I dont class my Audi as particularly rare but apart from one I saw on ebay a while back I dont think ive seen another type 44 A100 powered by an 1800cc 4 pot engine. Ive got an old parkers price guide and the model was only built for a couple of years, between 1983 and 1985. Mine is on a 1986 C plate but was manufactured in 1985. Its certainly difficult to get parts for. The model simply isnt listed in many parts catalouges- NLA is fair enough but being told your car doesnt exist can be frustrating when looking for bits!

Ive no idea how many were made and imported into the U.K but being the poor relation to their 5 pot breathen I doubt many were coveted and preserved and many years have passed since the last one chugged from the production line.

Does anyone know of any others or have an idea of how many are left? The idea of preserving something unusual would make the act of forking out piles of wonga keeping the thing on the road slightly less painful!

In 20 years time the number of Ur quattros from the 1980's will outweigh the rest of the factory build... So the cars 'preserved' will be the reverse of the 1980's price guide... The 100 1.8 was towards the bottom of the price guide, so, conversely will be one of the least desirable, and less likely to be preserved cars... Making it a rare beast in years to come...

These C3 without proper powerplant maybe was built between 1983 and 1985 for RHD countries, but at least germans got them all the way until the end of C3. There was even Audi 100 quattro with 1.8 engine...

Ok, it would be fair to reclassify the 1.8 Audi 100 Type 44 from "rare" to "obscure shite" :lol:

I wwas talking to ca guy at ADI who had one, a white avant. It was absolutely MINT, and i mean spotless! So thats two still left!

I've often fancied a 1.8 personally. I'm more interested in mpg than mph and it's book figures are impressive. The official mpg figures for the 2.0 that replaced it, are no better than the 2.2 so it seemed a strange change to me.
We had the 1781 engine in an '83 Passat and quite liked it. All the 1.8 T44s I've seen are carb engines. I wonder why they did not use FI.
I'd seen the 1.8Q mentioned in application listings but assumed it was an error. Interesting to know it was available in other markets. I wonder if that was carb or FI.

More looks like carb. I don't think it was error, I believe no one wanted it and now they are rarest of all C3 because who wants quattro with 1.8 carb? :D

The 1.8 carb is a good car really, no slower than many other cars, good MPG and great on the motorway. No match for a 5cyl though.

I wouldn't guarantee the 5 pots being much quicker than the 4 pots , with the extra weight to lug around.

The extra weight is more than compensated by a nice 2.2! Fuel injection helps alot.
