ah now you shouldn't start threads about easy listening music as I'm a huge fan of the genre and will just wax lyrical on the subject.

Matt Monroe quite simply one of the best voices this country has ever produced. Did you know George Martin produced much of his work during the 60's?. Matt's voice is comparable to the true hollywood greats, in particular Frank Sinatra. The fact the Matt's success came during the 60's when most of the music scene was filled with the Merseybeat sound, the Beatles, Stones, Motown, Hendrix blah bla blah. Set against that level of youth culture and creativity only goes to demonstrate his true genius. Quite simply Matt competed in that musical era with only his voice. For sure he had good songwriters and producers behind him but he hailed from a time when you paid to be entertained by a man singing. If his voice was pants he'd be found out. If he had been singing at the height of the swing, rat pack, late 40's to mid 50's with such luminaries as Bing Crosby, Sammy Davis, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennet there is no doubt he would have been as big, if not bigger than them all.

One of Britains finest ever singers, he started out as a bus driver

Anyway next week I'm off to London to see Andy Williams at the Royal Albert Hall. Legend!!
