Quad bikes - whats the deal??

Seen plenty of these out on the road of late, basically driven rather irresponsibly by people not dressed in any kind of safety gear, sometimes not even a helmet.

What is the law around them? I was tootling down the M54 on my way home tonight (and it was tootling cos I was driving a Transit tipper - proper pikey style!!), and I get overtaken by some idiot who's probably doing around 90mph on a quad, wear a pair of Jeans, some chavvy top which was open and blowing everywhere and a helmet.

Have to say, you get a certain kind of look when driving one and that's "hey up, we're about to get robbed!"

Chav clothes and no helmet an absolute requirement of riding a quad on the road. Stop them all the time just to see if I get the same reaction!!!.... Why you no wear helmet?.........The response is always

"HA! DONT YOU KNOW MATE?...DONT HAVE TO WEAR ONE!!!!"

"MMMmmm....indeed you dont, it was just that I was wondering what your head was made of cos it will still will pop like an egg, just like if you were riding a real motorbike when you get knocked off"!!......Oh and unless your white socks and trainoz are Kevlar lined, your ankles might smart a bit when they snap as you land....... Still....Im certain that you can get Jeremy Kyle on hospital TV so you will be fine mate"!!!
.............Tumbleweed follows as the cogs turn....then....... ....HARRR!!!....Is that T5 MAYTE?....Chipped up innit ??

I ride a quad every day,its the only way to get around on this rambling country estate i work on.I dont wear a helmet, and i do have to be careful,i know of a few people who have been crushed by the quad after it bounced in an incident and ended up on top of them, sliding on wet slopes is another way to get into trouble.Just got to be aware.

SteveT63 04-09-09 11:12 PM

Ian....On a serious note, why dont you wear a helmet?.........
