audi 80 b4 2.6 v6 gearbox
 

Can any 1 throw any light on this subject?
Since I have had the car the car(and a beauty at that) there has been a slight noise that I am presuming is coming from the gear box. Now this noise isnt loud and isnt a whinning noise either, it sounds like the noise gets faster with speed but not louder.I have no problems selecting a gear or changing gear, I am wondering if I ,may need gear box oil? and if so is this a tricky job?(may sound like im stupid but some 1 told me it might be a nightmare of a job) Me and the beast will be at the audi meet in August, so if any 1 can help you can have a listen......cheers Si

Funny you should say that but I had exactly the same problem with my old B4 80 2.6 avant, and ended up buying a replacement box from Four Ring Spares in Doncaster for £250.


Probably not what you wanted to hear but it sounds just like how mine went.
I lived with mine for about 5,000 miles but the noise got louder and I couldn't turn the stereo up any more to hide the noise!

Mine does this at about 2500rpm,mine is like a whine but low pitched.

I quite like it,so have left it!:p:wierdo:

Im changing the gbox oil on it very soon though.Going to put in Royal Purple Oil,its the poodles privates matey

Sounds like diferential bearings :) Gearbox, that was in my A80 ar first - AK 4 gears had bad bearings that started to sing somewhere around 50 kmph [30 mph] :)
