Front shock help urgently needed!

Hi!

It has come to light that a pair of front shocks I fitted some time ago might be the cause of a problem I have been having on and off for a year!

OK,naming no names,I was supplied with a pair of Boge front dampers for mine a year back.
When I took the old shocks out,I'll be honest and say that the ones I was putting in were a couple of mm slimmer.

How this has manifested itself is that when I recently put in quality green top mounts,I have had rattling from the front end.

I currently need advice on this as there is a set of shocks on ebay for a Passat which Im hoping will fit,and theyre a good price.Im told by Pete Reeve that it sounds like the front shocks rattling in the struts.I did the strut retaining cups up tight tight, with plumbing wrench!Pete said that I shouldnt have needed to swing off it in a vice like I had to.I just want the shocks to go in and the new cups to hold them in,no rattle, end of!

I did do the slotted nut down so that the top mount bearing rotated but I nipped it up just a touch so it didnt rattle.

This is just how my last top mounts were fitted but it didnt rattle and the mounts lasted 18 months. Not bad.

This time,one week...rattleus!!

Help!!

Did u you put a drop of oil in the strut before you put the shock in???? this will stop the rattle:nod:
