concidering this engine hasnt been used for years I think its in pretty good nick, cam would need a wee freshen up and the valves re done

will sell separetely or as a block buy

IT COULD ONLY HAPPEN TO ME WOULDNT IT......

DROVE down to bloody Leeds this morning to drop off the block for a chap despirate for one to rebuild his engine.

Met up with him only for him to tell me its NOT A WR engine Rich:yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes:

W.T.F is it then? not sure, could be a KV or an MC or WX:yikes::yikes:

SO currently pissing blood and feathers, so apart from going to the expense of paying Colin to strip it down for the guy THEN drive down here and back I AINT HAPPY

will have alook and see if there are any identifying numbers on the parts at home so anyone with ETKA can have a wee look for me please.

The donor was a 1983 WR because
a) it was an early quattro and

b) the V5 said so so WHY/WHERE he got these engines from GoD ONLY KNOWS:wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wa ll:

I NEED A BEER:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::grr::grr::grr:: grr::grr::grr::grr::grr:

whats the engine number ? should tell you all.

Cylinder heads a kv or mb/1b type to me.

Whats the number stamped into the side by the firing order?

Cant make out more than 035.... itll be something like 035 373 103 for a KV and itll have a/d on the end of that if its a wr which it may be looking at the water feed outlet on the head face.

Rods look like KV or 1B also.
Wr has massive rods very over engineered.
Those look like the ones i have here and also off the PB code golfs/passats etc with a 20mm wrist pin.

if its a wr head- id be interested in it, i have a wr block here minus its top end i could do with working on.....

Ssoooo

Are we saying the engine is basically a KV, with WR pistons, manifolds and bolted into a standard WR engine bay with turbo/intercooler oil coolers etc....?

If so, Richard, any idea how long it's been like it, and how well it went? (just thinking aloud here, okay).

Cant be KV with WR pistons as the bore diameters different, 79.5 as opposed to 81.0 irc, plus the WR has wrist pins that are thicker and different big end journal sizes.
Means the later 1b/MB/MC/KV parts wont bolt up directly.
You could swap out the cranks tho and have a wr crank, rods and pistons (oversized) into a KV block ;)

The head however does appear to be a WR.
The clincher for me is the water drilling in the head.
On the KV, its more of a slot than a hole, and its the main reason why theyre generally thought to be non switchable...hasnt stopped me tho! :D

Those rods dont look WR to me either, they look to be KV as theyve got a thinner "H" beam section than WR's, which are pretty much the same as earlier versions of the 5 cylinder lumps from WB/WC etc....

ok....
just been to have a look for you

the block has the following numbers stamped into it:

035 103 021N

18E84

EB

it also has 2 electrical connectors next to the oil dip stick tube.

as for the rest of the engine bits, You'll have to wait until Sunday pm when I get home.

makes me wonder if the other engine still at Colins garage is the same or another variant!!:hmmm:
