Dose anyone know if this is any good,it's a Silverline 180mm rotary sander/polisher
1200w motor 6 speeds 600-3000 rpm, as i'm looking for one but don't want to get one thats no good for the job

Silverlines have a very good reputation, and are a very good machine.

Different ball game using a rotary to a random orbital. Just make sure you keep the pads well spritzed when polishing as the heat generated can burn the paint quicker than you may think!

A far easier machine to use and less chance of burning through. In fact, the heat generated from a random orbital is miniscule in comparison and there is nearly no chance of burning through and the same results can be achieved. The only real difference is the time taken. You can machine polish a car in about 2/3rds of the time it would take to do it with a R/O.
As long as you are careful and don't get sidetracked, then a rotary is the way to go.
But, a random orbital is more forgiving and easier to use.
The G220 is better now than when it first came out as it did have a few issues. It's basically a Porter cable in a pretty dress anyway (and 220v instead of 110v)

got myself a meguiars g200 polisher so will be going to have a play with it later this afternoon lol

cool. Have you got the megs pads as well? also what polish will you be using?

If you're doing any VAG car after 1995, use the orange pad and eithe Menzerna PO85RD3.02 or 3M Fast Cut plus 50417 as they used ceramiclear top coats and are too hard for normal polishes:tup:

im doing my 80 bonnet as it has some fine scrathes i got the kit from clean your car .co.uk the pads are menzerna white,orange,yellow,the polishs are intensive polish p085rd 3.02,superfinish p0106 fa,final finish p085rd,

you've got the right stuff to get on with then.

On yours, used the PO85RD with yellow pad first. If that doesn't shift it, then use the orange pad with the PO85RD, and if it still doesn't get rid of them, then use the 3.02.
Your red is single stage and softer than the newer audi paints so always best to start with a less aggressive combination first then work up.
