Your View (needs to be tonight 5th May )
I have been contacted by the press who are doing an artical on the ashes car he has asked for comments on the following so what do we all think
what has ashes to ashes has done for Audi owners - is it harder to find parts at the moment due to demand caused by the show? Do you think its unfair for the BBC to be championing a particular brand or do you think its great for Audi? post away :D |
Damn, this could be an interesting thread!
1) It's made people who own red quattro's look like they are stuck in the '80's! 2) It's made people who drive other coloured quattro's seemingly a lot less gheyer!! 3) Every person who has listed a normal Type 85 coupe GT in blue/white or black on eBay has then used the phrase "just like the ones used in Ashes to Ashes" 4) Every Audi quattro owner (male!!) has a fetish for Keeley Hawes. |
It's made me realise that Audi actually made 4762 swb quattros, cause everybody comes up to me and tells me their; Mate, Mum, Uncle, vicar, gardener or pool man has one except its a proper swb rally one....
Seriously though all i think it's done is bring a load of sheds out of sheds that people seem to think are worth £10k. The disgraceful way Audi treat the parts situation, is one of the reasons we are very unlikely to spend money being brand loyal on the newer stuff. |

Parts are a joke
Darren is bang on. it was bad enough before a2a but every one that had a gt or a cq years ago seems to think they had a Ur now........and the number of cocks at traffic lights that shout 'Fire up the quattro!' at you is getting very tiresome Parts are a joke plus points.....even young kiddies know w a quatt now....we have a lot of young uns walk past the garage at the side of our house and they all admire the cars in a positive way. Harry and George (!) two young lads of 9 and 10 are into Scoobies and look upon the quatt with reverance....very cool in a way  ps Parts are a joke |

Well,I'll answer
OK,Im not a Quattro owner and dont particularly aspire to own one.... I was susprised they chose to use a Quattro and was pleased they did.It could have been the Cosworth or one of the faster Escorts, being far more typical and more affordable at the time.Mind you he is a DCI!!! It doesnt make parts more or less obtainable for me as I own the later style B4 Coupe V6,so not relevant. My car gets more looks now, this I have noticed. Its probable that its due to some of the gawpers (kids) are Ashes fans and are looking to see if this is some sort of Quattro! Where I live,I have seen an increase in the amount of non-forum registered Quattros,WR and MB,on the road. All of these are texted to Amanda, with reg no. Im not sure if she does anything with this info or just laughs at me,but just in case there really is some kind of register being kept. Steve:tup: |
When prople ask me what car I have in the garage I seem to get a lot more interested people now whereas before it was more of "oh ok". Quite a few people seem to say to me fire up the quattro, to which I say "I Cant" lol. It has definately affected the scene there is a lot more for sale, I think every decent car gets a boost every so often whether it top gear , 5th gear, tv program etc, but eventually it all settles down again. Eventually all that will be left is decent ones and no parts. Hence why I am fitting a newer engine and running gear. I think the trick is to store as many parts as you can now instead of waiting for the drought of parts that will eventually happen. Cant wait to "Fire up the Quattro" lol...
