List of Vehicles Scrapped in 2009 (Government data)
 

Below is a list of cars scrapped in the UK in 2009, presumably on the Government scrappage scheme. Freedom of information request made it available in 2014. Makes for grim reading...

Quite a few mistyped entries. Had a laugh at the 'Vauxswagon'.

• 2 Ford Escort RS Turbo
• 10 Mazda RX-7
• 2 Nissan Skyline including a GT-R
• ~30 Peugeot 205 GTI including 2 205 Rallye
• ~50 Porsche 944
• ~200 Subaru Impreza including at least one WRX
• 30 Toyota Supras including 2 Supra Turbo
• 18 Triumph TR7 and 3 Stag
• 3000+ Vauxhall Vectra :tup:
• ~60 VW Corrado
• Many VW Golf GTi including 16v, VR6

Can you spot any other tragic entries in there?

Quite possibly one of the least 'green' government schemes even devised... Let's scrap perfectly good vehicles and force people in a new car that will loose 30% of it's value in one year.

I'm sure it was done to try and stimulate the economy after the the 2008 banking crash and had absolutely nothing no do with the environment.:fire:

It pissed me off at the time seeing some of the cars going to waste.

Are the general public really so stupid that they think a new car is born out of thin air? It has to be manufactured, the materials have to be mined or produced often in harmful processes then often shipped halfway around the world all of which use's valuable resources that have already been lost in an older car.

Agree. And the funny part about this is that most of the new cars in 2009 would have been diesel because that was the green fuel of the day. The self same cars are now vilified and worthless.

Some people (with the money to spare) will like to think they're doing the right thing by buying new, and maybe do only 5000 miles a year.......then 3 years later they do the same again . But I suppose that's how the used car market gets cars.

Very true, especially if you live or use it to commute to anywhere with a low emissions tarif .

Spot on, they were trying to get everybody driving oil burns back then, now they're supposed to kill Polar bears.

It's all total bollocks as the exhaust gases from road vehicles whilst fairy significant on a global scale only make up a tiny fraction of total C02 emissions compared to aircraft, shipping and unregulated heavy industry in country's like China.

You could take every single petrol or diesel car off the road and it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to the climate, apart from locally in city's. Try tell that to those moronic anti oil protestors though and they'll just put their fingers in their ears, a bit like flat earth proponents.

Upsets me every time I look at that list!! Not a classic, but there's definitely something fishy about an Audi A5 being on the list, it would've only been a couple of years old max in 2009! I'm sure cars had to be roadworthy... I.e. you couldn't stick an accident damaged car in?! Let's hope the 12 "Audi Quattros" were mislabelled later cars... I can't imagine anyone scrapping a UR for a couple of grand, even in 2009?!!

It would have made sense if they took car's that were MOT failures and potentially dangerous, but that wasn't the case, it had to be roadworthy which is crazy... I'm guessing the UR was super rusty and the owner knew someone in the trade to get a dodgy MOT from but the A5 is baffling as they were fairly new back then, perhaps it was super high mileage with an engine ready to crap it's pants. God knows.:wierdo:

Post deleted, latest situation on everything next thread....

Now the powers that be are at it again in London with £2K being offered to owners of vehicles that aren't ULEZ compliant... Meaning another load of cars that are by now virtually carbon neutral after a lifetimes use are being destroyed for no good reason.

Us folk that maintain and run older cars properly are the greenest of all motorised vehicle road users yet are the ones being penalised. Some poor folk on low incomes will probably be forced off the road if they can't come up with enough money to purchases a modern turd box that complies with the rules.

I'm very glad I live in a fairly remote part of the country so haven't got to worry about any of this new legislation... Yet, how long will it be before these ridiculous laws encompass everyone? :hmmm:
