Sunroof Problem
 

The sunroof 0n my B2 Audi 90 has a problem opening and closing.
I thought the issue was mechanical. However, when the seal is not on, everything seems to work properly. As far as I know, the seal is an OE Audi replacement (fitted at least ten years ago).
Has anyone come across this problem? Any known fixes?
I have heard someone has some replacements, but these were ill-fitting and problematical too. Apparently, there is a GM that fits and works. Any experience of this? Part number?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Mine wasn't closing properly so I took the seal off and cleaned it well then replaced using silicon grease to lubricate. All works nicely now. Worth a try.

Similar question. I need to take my sunroof out. I’ve just bought a golf handle (which is in truth a little short, but will work) but when I try to wind it open it won’t move. It feels like one side is moving very slightly but not the other.
Any tips on how to get the roof out?
Can I pull the side clips out with the sunroof locked and then remove the roof? They are a bit stiff...
Once out I can clean everything but I can’t get it out (or at least I’m not prepared to force it more than I have so far)

I don't think the pull tabs work until its raised.
I suggest you get some silicone spray and work it into the seal with a soft toothbrush. Leave it to soak overnight and hopefully it should free it up. The rubber has most likely glued itself to the bodywork. It gets very sticky as it degrades over time. Finding a new seal might be interesting.

I managed to insert a piece of thin plastic card between the seal and the roof, and ran it all the way round.
Then turned the handle, gently banged the roof, continued until it came clear.
Removed roof and cleaned junk out.

Good news is that the rust spots in the roof look more easily treatable than I thought, and the roof will work fine given some lubricant and exercise!

I'm sure the roof has to be set in a certain position.......(for & aft), this is explained in the Bentley manual.

I bought a brand new seal from quattro corner. It is a genuine Audi part. However, it seems the seal is slightly thick and despite being smothered with silicone grease as suggested, opening the sunroof remains a difficult procedure.
Having spoken to Ian, the older seals were thinner, but like is so often the case, these are NLA:wall:
