Central locking keeps LOCKING itself!

You open the driver's door with the key and the door stalks pop up but then go straight down again so you cant get any of the doors open (without a massive faff).

Highly frustrating!

Anyone got any ideas what's going on here?

Probably not enough vacuum. Possibly a broken, or disconnected line inside the door

What's it like from the passenger door ?

The passenger side door lock broke and was replaced with a new lock and key some years ago -all working fine (new key on passenger door, old key on driver's door and ignition/boot).

However, at the same time as the central locking problem arising, the passenger door key turns with no resistance in the lock (and nothing happens -no stalk moving, no nothing!).

I wonder if something has snapped off at the back of the door handle?

Worth a look.

Sounds like 2 problems - one on each door.

The only way to investigate is to strip the doors down. It goes without saying - don't lock it until you've at least fixed one of the doors. And put the windows down so you can still reach in and unlock from the inside

In the last day or so the driver's door now locks/unlocks as normal (including the central locking on all other doors in the car). No idea why it's now working again.

However, the other key (for the passenger door only) still turns freely in this lock so something has definitely broken on this lock inside the door.

Last night, the central locking opened and then the stalks went down again. However, I tried the key again and it worked ok (and has been ok today).

It has a mind of its own, this car!
