Anyone work for Audi
 
As above , need the pin code for my rnse unit ( they don't supply it ) and it looks like I'll need to faff about with the dealer . I'm upgrading to a newer version and got the chance of binning my old one

They don't supply the code anymore to the owner unless you go in to them apparently

That statement makes perfect sense to me john johnson!...
Firstly: how would you feel about them giving out your code over the phone to someone that doesn't even own your vehicle? going in to them not only safe-guards you but also them against such occurrences. :nod:
Secondly: who knows how many of these things were made, its quite possible and highly probable that the code can only be obtained if the part is in front of them. :nod:? :nonod:?

In any case, "faffing about with the dealer" would appear to be a far better option than trying to do it yourself (imo). No offense but if you f**! it up, well what then? a dose of humble pie and tail between your legs trying to explain that one to the dealer so that they can sort out what is in effect, your mess?, like c'mon! - Just go to the dealer and get it done man! :smilewinkgrin:

The dealer needs the AUZ number off the side of the unit and a chassis number.If it's a later unit these can also be got from MVB81 on vagcom etc.Where it should store the original ChNo+AUZ,but not always
The problem can be,there are a large number of stolen and iffy RNSEs floating around,and Audi may/can cross reference and report the unit as stolen! Lots coming from Poland/Russia.
Normally Any full chassis number will do but best to use the original the unit came from ,but the AUZ number is a must.The car doesn't need to be connected to the dealer diagnostic tester to get the security code.In fact ODIS is S###on older vehicles.

Thank you for your pearls of wisdom , I've better things to do with my time than run the gauntlet of the dealer trying to charge me X or Y for the pin code for something I own and had experience of them doing so . I won't be making " a mess " and they stopped supplying the pin code from 2004 iirc to stop the theft of units but it's not really going to stop it when you can attempt to get them online . I've wasted 1.5hours sourcing the keys to pull it out to get the code off the side of the unit and as mentioned you really need to be armed with the code and your chassis number and from memory the unit doesn't need recoding if it's still in the same car car but does when popped in another car

Clearly you do , the pin code was originally supplied in the front of the service history booklet but now they do not supply it with the car or to the owner .... You have to request it at the dealers which is where the dealers can usually start their smoke and mirrors dance which I have a lot of experience of ..... Thank you for your input
