Asda Bungle on Magnatec 5w/30

I bought 4 litres of this stuff the other day from my local Asda and it was £20 which I considered not bad. Realising my old Helmet needs 4.5 litres went down the next day and bought another 4 litres of the same stuff. Took it to the self serve and £14 flashed up!

That's Asda-Price!!

Craig, why would you put in 5W/30 when it should be 10/40?! 5w/40 is good too.

5W/30 is too thin.

Aye it will with oil that thin and would burn even in a new AAN engine.

Indeed... That's knats piss for a 20+ year old engine on a 30+ year old design.:yikes:

I feel for your engine Craig, even if you drive like a Grandad like me 99.9% of the time your still going to prematurely wear your engine out and yours is your daily! That would be a real shame given she's a beauty and only done 90k i think?

Here's why .. .. .. .. Your 30 top end is way too thin when the engine is at operating temp so your lower viscosity oil cannot support the bearing load on the crankshaft being as it's like water so when you open up the taps, as you mentioned the other day she goes like a formula 1 car with that chipped engine of yours, fine but your really polishing of material within your engine and asking for trouble. The higher correct 40 top end viscosity can support the bearing load on your crankshaft far better than the 30 grade your using. Then there's ester based oils which have the very best shear load capabilities over any other oil.

Thats why i use and you should use 10w/40 or 5w/40 as per the manufacturer. I go a step further by [i] buying ester based oil which has the highest molecular shear rate than any other engine oil so protecting my bearings and engine surfaces much better than any other oil/I] Doing as me Craig you will use less oil, i.e. top ups, between oil changes and protect your engine properly.

Hope that helps buddy. :)
