?? fuel pump problem 83 80quattro
So i came to use the car for work this morning, and when i turned the ignition there wasn't the usual whine from which i think is the fuel pump priming the system...
So when it started it revved for a second and then died. It does have an alarm on the car but i don't know how if this affects the fuel pump or just ignition. Being late for work i couldn't begin to fathom the problem, So any ideas for where to start when i get home would be much apprecited. I'm guessing there's a relay somewhere? and also an area of interest is around the fuel filter Nearside rear passenger underside, any clues?? many thanks jamie :( |
by looking at previous posts, u can "jump" the pump! as it were any thoughts :-)

The pump needs to run when you switch on the ignition. It obviously doesn't operate. So:
1st Check fuses. if they are okay 2nd remove the fuel pump relay and jumper port 30 (battery +) and port 87 (pump power supply). If the pump starts running replace the relay. If the pump doesn't operate check relay socket port 30. It needs to have battery + 12V. If supply is okay, check the pump plug. If there is power supply (12V and negative) replace the pump. If there is power supply when the relay port 30 and 87 are jumped but no supply with the engine is getting started check relays socket as follows: Port 30 at the relay socket needs to have permanent battery power (+ 12V) Port 86 needs to have power supply with ignition on Port 85 needs to have negative supply via ECU |
Thats superb, thanks for the details-sounds very logical- i'll give it a try :-))
