First. Nice new whip fella!

Secondly, the 1.8 (8v lump I presume) is a fairly decent engine in itself so doubt you'd see any benefit if swapping over to be honest.

When you picking up the 80?

Outputs pretty much spot on the same.

Guess the advantage would be the sound, smoothness etc.
WN code engine...brings back fond memories. :)

Now if you said about transplanting a 1.8 Turbo lump into out of of, let's say a TT for example, now that would be kinda interesting!

1.8T out of a A4 would slide in there no problem.

It should go in without too much hassle, as the same B3 arrangement was with the Coupe's, that ran 5 pots.

One thing you might find worth checking is the emissions, as the 5 pot will have had less stringent emissions in it's current body shell. The emissions are based on vehicle age, not engine age.

Dunno about "not much hastle" the four pot mounts on the subframe, you'll have to cut out and weld the five pot mounting plates onto the chassis, plus all the extra weight hanging over the front suspension will mess up the balance and brakes on the car. Seems like a lot of hastle to get something nearly like you can have already. If you're going to put the effort in, you might as well make it worthwhile....go 1.8T :devil:

You might find the front panel is different where the rad mounts the 4 cyls have a box section to hold the rad, 5 cylinders cars don't
