Found a FUBA antenna

Hey out there, I had the good fortune to find a really decent antenna for my Coupe.:D
I'm looking into rebuilding the snapped off unit I had, aside from finding a replacement mast only, has anyone out there tried to retrofit a Fuba amplified antenna? Does any one have a part number for the mast replacement? Are they unobtainium as well?

I take it this is the pull up one and not the electric one.

Amanda, hey there. Yes this is the pull up one. There was powered retractable one for sale last week on Ebay UK but the starting bid was 199 pounds:eek: The motor/wheel section of which seems to screw right onto the simpler version, but this is based on pictues alone. See attached. Thanks.;)

Probably common Knowledge, but if you remove the 4 screws holding the body of a Fuba antenna together, its just a tease. You'd think it should slide apart into 2 sections. Not so much. The interior space which houses the delicate powered electrical connect to the aerial is filled with some kind of hardened insulating foam. Absolutely cannot be pulled apart without ruining the interior. Maybe, with the correct solvent....

My 80 Sport still has the manual version ( left hand picture)
Were there any takers at £199 ?

The model aircraft guys may have the correct solvent as some of them make fibreglass bits using foam as the mold and then dissolve the foam out with the correct 'stuff' . Trouble is you do not want to dissolve the insulation etc on components..........

Both those are now nla and the manual one was standard for cq's and gt's .....the electric one was for the urq but both are interchangeable ;) As far as I am aware the masts for only the urq one are still available from audi.

Good to know. Thanks Amanda.

Amanda, does that mean that although the main ariel part looks the same the mast is actually different....... never had an electric ariel so have no idea about their innards and how the work....

Santa (my brother the Audi Mechanic) was good to me for Christmas. He managed to conjure from some gnomes in Zurich, a NOS (new old stock) replacement antenna mast for my Fuba antenna. So now I even have a perfect spare.:rock:

I think he sold his soul at some point.

So ... would there be any more left in the bottom of the sack?
: )
