Driver's side window motor/mechanism!

Hello all! :)

My driver's side window is still broken, need a new window motor/mechanism complete for my '86 Coupe GT. Has anyone got one kicking about that they'd willing to sell? I'm willing to pay around £30 - it's nice to have a bit of fresh air from time to time and I miss hearing the burble! :(

Have you had a go at dismantling it? or checking it?

Sometimes it's the switches rather than the motor... Swap the connectors with the passenger side window (assuming that one works okay) to test. 5 min job.

If it's still no go, strip down the door card and take the motor out (Not a 5 minute job ! ), with the motor and mechanism on a table carefully check the mechamism cables and 'gearbox' from the motor to the cable. I bet the motors fine, and the gearbox is just ceased. They can be (again, carefully, otherwise you'll have cable spring everywhere) quite easily dismantled and freed.

You might need some 'star' type drivers though.

If you've got the time, it's worth a go.

Thanks for your quick reply! I wouldn't normally be replying until the evening but it's my birthday so I've taken the day off! :D

I've already had the door panel off, it's the cable that's the problem. It gradually chewed itself up, then snapped. I've already changed the driver's side motor/mechanism twice since I've had the car in about 4 years so have an experience in this field! Ideally, the best thing would be to change the whole lot, because the motor was getting a bit slower before it snapped (probably due to the friction of the cable!).

Should I replace just the cable? Surely it's not that easy to get hold of just a cable, better off with a complete motor/mechanism?

I've got a couple of knackered ones here laying about waiting for either the Ur or the RallyRep to grind to a halt... As you say really, the cheapest option's to get a complete window mechanism and fit that... But just make sure you're not fitting one in equally bad condition..

Perhaps I should replace just the cable then! Have you got any spare 'intact' cables kicking about? I'm willing to pay a few squids if it means I can get my window going again! :)

If you really get stuck I should have one kicking around here

A cable or a mechanism? A cable should be more than adequate for what I need, unless I discover that something else is broken!

Posibly both :D

Shall have a rummage over the weekend
