Cars your afraid of owning
After chatting with a mate tonight are there any cars you are afraid of owning for whatever reason, i.e. expensive engine rebuilds, bad handling, shell stress cracking etc.
There are a few i'd like but think they'd be a wallet buster cosworth - unless you get a good low milage or one thats freshly rebuilt, how long before another rebuilds required? intergrale - i've heard stories of the shell stress cracking. Also rust and any wiring issues subaru - rebuild around 100k and gearboxes made of chocolate audi rs6 - suspension, gearbox, petrol costs porsche/supra - some of the more tail happy capri handling versions. |
Scoob's are alright..I know and have been in several (1 import and 2 ukturbo2000's) that have had between 100,00 and 170,000 on there original engine!! quite a amazing feat in impreza term's.
Id Say a Saxo - Means' im either a Ned,boyracer..and if it taps a twig at 20mph..I wont come out of it alive! Wr Quattro (A2 Rep when it's finished) In case i ever get the privilege of driving it!! |
UR Quattro? (only kidding ;-)
Any kind of Ferrari that is sub 30k now (3k service intervals, loads of problems) A Range Rover made after 2002 - have a look at Parkers Owner Reviews Alfasud, GTV6 or 75 V6 - rust, electrics, rust, oil pressure, rust |
Lancia 8.32; detuned Ferrari engine, wiring by The Italian Pasta Co, bodywork by the Paper Doylee PLC.
P38 Range Rover - rubbish air suspension and suspect blocks / cylinder liners. Honda NSX - because I'd never be as good as Ayrton Senna driving it. |
Anything new, anything French, anything that rusts. ;)

A short wheel base Porsche 911
Almost any Lancia made. Almost any car made after 2000 that costs less than 35000 BP or $60000 US |
The ur quattro. The vast majority of them are moneypits now. The 'proper' examples rarely appear for sale. Lost count of the amount people over the years who have followed their dream of owning one, only for it to end up in tears. Never has the saying, 'Buy the best example you can afford', been more apt. The rough ones make the mint, but expensive ones appear a bargain, and a no-brainer. As for the expensive, but still rough cars. :nonod:

Some good responses.
One of my mates was mentioning a lancia delta to me yesterday and as much as I like the thought of it I think its definately something that i'd be best not bothering with (I know it needs work) |
