Classic Audi - audi coupe tailgate squeaking

For years i have had to endure my tailgate squeaking, it drives me mad!!!!!! at last after trying all sorts of recommended solutions, I have found out what causes it. It is the moulded rubber sleeve that fits around the triangular shaped steel plate that holds the reciever spindle, it is bolted to the tailgate. After years of wear, the rubber becomes detatched to the metal plate that it covers and rubs against it when the tailgate is shut. a new piece has to be fitted. this will then cure the problem. so dont bother with the tailgate stops or the rubber seal or the lock mechanismn, you will probably be barking up the wrong tree......
