Just picked up my 68 Variant...
Well the day finally came...
we picked the old girl up... yep she's crusty and crispy mostly in the sill areas, arches and inner wings plus the front wings obviously but there are so many good bits they out way the bad i reckon :) This car has two registered owners, it was traded in to a car sales man in Suterton Lincs in 1989ish and was used by him on and off until 1992 at which point it was laid up. he never registered the car. it's covered 48,000 miles from new and the inside is perfect. the only wear is in on the carpets but they are only over carpets over the original beige rubber floor covering. the colour is VW Java green as used on 66 Beetles and apart from both sides below the side mouldings and the whole front wings the paint is original. when i got it back to the workshop i drained the stale petrol out, put a battery on and after a fair amount of turning over it struck up. not bad considering the key was last turned 15plus years ago! it drives and the clutch is good but the brakes are binding and the pedal is rock hard... finding panels is going to be a nighmare but it's just a case of searching hard... they are out there somewhere i'm sure :) anyway here are some pics to numb your brains further after reading my boring writeup :) http://domain710340.sites.fasthosts....udi80/a80v.jpg http://domain710340.sites.fasthosts....di80/a80v1.jpg http://domain710340.sites.fasthosts....di80/a80v2.jpg http://domain710340.sites.fasthosts....di80/a80v3.jpg http://domain710340.sites.fasthosts....di80/a80v4.jpg http://domain710340.sites.fasthosts....di80/a80v5.jpg http://domain710340.sites.fasthosts....di80/a80v6.jpg |

Not insanely jealous much!!!:D
VW Java Green is my favourite colour on early bugs (apart from savannah beige!) and looks superb on this! I love the passenger rear pop out windows!!!!!! I'm sure someone, somewhere over in germany would be able to source out a new front wing of sorts or maybe get a lead as to where you might get one from. The sills will probably be easier to "make" but the wing could be a bit of a mare as it seems to have more swage lines than a 57 Bel Air! Good luck with this one and please keep us posted!! |
HOLY (add in expletive of choice) !!!!!!!
That is absolutely mind blowing . Never even seen one before. Have to say, it is gorgeous, looks so right, and 2 door as well. Must have been a stunner in its day. I wish you absolutely stupid "LUCK" with finding the bits you need for a top restoration or recommisioning. Ths car deserves to be back on the road as soon as possible. Let MrJ on www.retro-rides.com know, he runs a site over in Germany, and I am positive he will want to feature it on there, which will give you exposure for the parts you need as well. COXY..... my car pales in comparison :eek::eek: |
The more I look at it, the more I love the old skool styling.
The double swage line running the complete length of the car with an increasing gap looks superb. and the 2 door estate makes it more like a hearse!!! |
Discounting the rust.
Imagine how minblowing the metamorphosis will be with your paint correction on that car Coxy......?? The stuff of wet dreamzzz ehhh? The whole cars lines to me are just soooo right, a bit like the way I feel about modern RS-Type estates, especially in Blue. |

When you think immaculate, Coxy takes it to another level, for a lot less than the price of a respray, or a break to Ibiza. http://www.classic-audi.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=86 |
