Unleaded fuel..?

After having numerous faults with my fuel system, i was wondering if the engine in my 1985 80 Sport was suitable for unleaded. Since its had a full head rebuild recently i'd like to keep it in good nick internally.
1985 was a few years before unleaded became widely available in the UK. Is anyone here running their early 80's car on unleaded or are we using addatives????
What should the timing be set to?

Super unleaded is what it says in the fuel filler flap of my 80 Sport. Bung in some BP Ultimate and give it a treat. Ultimate also gives better MPG (I have confirmed this over several thousand miles up and down the M5 / M4 to work and back, 100 miles a day.

I think all Audi / VW have been suitable for unleaded since before yours.

And put some Redex down the spark plug holes, then go for a drive...... very smokey!

Sure i read all Vw's and audis since 76 were able to be run on unleaded...pretty sure iirc.
Someone else confirm?

When i have used the car recently, super unleaded is exactly what i've been putting in. Just wondered about the valve seats.

my Sport says 98RON unleaded in the fuel filler flap!!!!!

It is designed for it.
