Adding a Turbo - B3 Coupe 2.3E 10 valve

My brother, Grant, is considering adding a Turbo to his B3 Coupe 2.3E 10 valve. Can anybody advise what this would involve and what problems he might have. He has access to a S2 manifold if this is of any use.

Thanks
Rod

I'm no turbo know it all by along way, so this just my opinion, for what its worth.

I don't sit comfortably with fitting a turbo to a car that was not built as one in the first place. If I wanted more power out of Grants car , I'd be looking at fitting a 2.3 20 valve out of a later Coupe or 90, smashing engine 170BHP as opposed to 136. If I ever need a new engine in mine thats be what I'd be looking at and you can pick 90's up well cheap and offset the cost by selling the bits off it.

The S2 manifold won't be any use, because that was 20 valve as well.

I once saw a 10v coupe for sale on ebay that had a turbo technics conversion.
Here are the pictures i saved of it. it was a couple of years ago now, i dont know what happened to it.

I thought about doing this to my 2.3e originally then i came to my senses.
My 1990 coupe has now had a 20v conversion done by nogin, and a ported head done by Tony (4v6).
Its also got the 034 motorsport injectors, tubular manifold and a complete (minus cat) cobra ss exhaust system.. and it goes like stink. :ihih:
The donor car was a dog of a fwd 20v found on ebay for £250, so i had everything under the bonnet that was needed.
To compensate for the lack of drive from the rear wheels i have fitted KW1 coilovers and the car handles superbly... ok in the dry at least! Seriously though its pretty good in the wet, helped by the choice of tyres, its wearing Toyo Proxies which i've found to be very good.

Personally i wouldnt do a turbo conversion on a fwd coupe mate, just my opinion though.

There was also a kit available from a manufacturer in the US (Gredy maybe), this included a replacement tubular manifold, turbo, and other necessary parts. I believe that it bumped it up to about 165bhp (they had around 120 on their 2.2 GT's).

an MC engine transplant would give you approx 180bhp
WR would give you approx 200bhp
3B/AAN/ABY/ANOTHER 20v Turbo Audi engine could give you 300+ when tuned up further

A 2.5/2.6litre KV stroker could give you 190-200bhp, and no laggyness.....

On the other hand, for comparatively little money you could just buy an Audi 200 quattro Turbo, the 4 door UR, faster than an UR too..... (top end anyway)

Would anyone really want to be pushing out 300+ from the front wheels though? :yikes:
Saying that there was a guy at PPC in the park at Mallory in may with an S3 engine in an MG ZR that was about 340 horses, he went past me like i was stood still..

I didnt know there was a kit available in the states for the NG, although i have drooled over the 7a kit available at 034. Its not worth the dosh though imo.

I didn't say it was for an NG, however, it was for one of the 10v engines supplied into the US. Did they get the NG?
