Caliper Help

Good afternoon,

Wonder if someone could shed some light on my front calipers in terms of part numbers and compatible parts. I have a 1985 Audi 80 GL (1.8 Carb) and I believe its fitted with 4x100 239mm vented discs.

811 615 123
811 615 124

I can find many that say they fit the B3 cars, but not the B2. I have also read somewhere that the callipers are the same for both vented and sold discs, and its the calliper carriers that are different.

Are the callipers the same for vented and non-vented discs?
Are there any variances between B2 & B3 callipers?
Many sources seem to say its the Girling/Lucas 54 that I need, is this correct - I cannot see any numbers on my originals?

One of my callipers has started sticking and requires a rebuild, however for the cost it seems to make sense to simply swap them out and keep my originals as spares - that way I can rebuild them in my own time and gain the knowledge of how to do it in the future.

As always, any help greatly appreciated.

Brgds,

Simon

That's correct - the calipers are the same for vented / solid discs.

The B2 and B3 calipers can't be the same. 239mm discs never got used on the later cars. They're all 256 and up

I may well have a pair of these calipers, new in boxes. I'll check when I get home.

Many thanks for that, if you do have a pair I would be interested in liberating them, like I say mine work but when I do the discs and pads I want to replace them as they’re past their best by some margin.

I did consider buying the following;

https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/132330062619

But they specify for both B2 and B3, which by your description above (which I fully believe) they wouldn’t fit and the seller is somewhat confused!

Many thanks!

From the 1st picture, you can put 214711 into your favourite search engine.

That brings up this link

http://www.brakeworld.co.uk/brakewor...tml/214711.htm

and also

http://www.brakeworld.co.uk/brakewor...tml/214712.htm

for the other side.

These are for B3 cars using 256mm discs.

I very rarely trust a seller description. Part number cross references are more reliable

If the only reason is caliper sticking, then you can just as well buy caliper rubber parts set for a few quid and do a rebuild, that will be quicker and the process will be marginally more difficult than swapping one caliper - unless you want to paint them - and unless current piston is badly corroded and requires replacement as well.

Got a left side but not a right.

Let me know if it's any use

That is absolutely typical!! It’s the right hand side I need, I will keep it in mind for the future, many thanks for your assistance.

The part below looks like the fellow, and the part numbers seem to cross reference, it was the solid disc comment from the seller that confused me a little.

I would have a go at rebuilding mine, but the one that needs work has developed a split rubber and a broken bleed nipple, so that’s gonna need some work and it will be easier to take my time over it and just swap it out, can learn with the old part then.

Thanks again.

That one looks right
