B3 quattro 16V - Under-dash shelf

The shelf under the driver's side dash on my 1991 80 quattro needs repairing due to a couple of broken mounting holes so I removed it and noticed some sort of terminal at the back but it had nothing attached to it. Does anyone know what it's for?

I may well need to replace the shelf if I can't repair it so please let me know if you know of a good one that's for sale. I very much doubt that they are available new but I will look into it.

Hi Nick,

Sure I'll have a spare shelf, I'll check tonight.

The terminal will probably be for some option you have not got like headlamp washer's perhaps at a guess.

Regards

David

Thanks David

I just wanted to check I hadn't accidentally disconnected something when removing it as there are rather a lot of 'spare' wires and terminals behind there!

It could be the diagnostic connector? My 90 20v has got 3 terminals there.

Thought I'd add a pic to help clarify this:

I tried attaching the pic but it failed. Not sure why as it's not big.

That's a bracket for holding the diagnostic connectors

Well, now I know! :)

I am going to try and repair and reinforce the 2 broken holes this weekend.
If it fails I will be looking for a replacement.

I recommend you to swap it outright :)

And that thing in the pic - yes, it's for diagnostic connectors. Presuming you have 6A engine, you have two of them as well, hidden somewhere in the loom, black and brown, so you can dig them out and put them back.

Thanks. Not sure about the engine code, it's a 2.0 16v.

I'll have a look at the loom tonight. I did see 3 double connectors (which are part of the loom) hanging near the accelerator pedal when I removed the shelf - they were blue, yellow and brown IIRC.

Maybe. If you can fit them there, do it.
