Car on SORN again until March

Well that was a quick 8 months:crazy:
Have to say the old beast has behaved better this than it has for the last 10, though still had a few probs to solve but non major. So whats going on this year whilst its on SORN?
1. Usual rotor arm and cap as the high power coil chews them up in 5k miles:smilewinkgrin:
2. Upgrade the brakes and calipers.
3. Usual oil and filter change and clean and re-oil the K&N
4. Improve the chargecooler cooling with an extra fan (this will bring the number of fans this car has to 6  )
5. Cure the oil leak from the rear diff (actually coming out the rubber boot for the diff lock)
6. Get the slightly buckled wheel repaired after hitting a flaming pothole last year in the dark.
7. 4 new tyres (these been on almost 5 years) as grip definitely not what it was (put my foot down in 2nd in the cold morning air yesterday and lost traction almost instantly)
8. Sort alternator issue, Only kicking out 12.5 to 13V, try a new regulator first but suspect one of the diodes internally goosed and cannot remember which Audi model I got this off lol :wall:
9. Electric aerial just started playing up again after its refurb last year so thats going to have to get a new internal relay this time.

Needs to be spot on as off for a trip around Europe in it next year:rock:
Green = completed

Well as I'm off this week, got a few jobs started and completed on Cq, The disi cap and rotor arm was done today and as usual took 2 hours of swearing and cut fingers.
The additional fan has been fitted to the charge cooler rad and the wiring uprated to cope.
Brake upgrade started and so far looking simpler than expected... try and get some pics up with further info in next few days...

Hi, I take it you have a 3B or ABY fitted to your coupe, the distributor cap and arm are a pig to do, as for the brakes what wheels do you have fitted to your coupe? I only have 15's fitted to my Gt coupe and 280mm front discs and G60 twin piston calipers just fit but the braking is out of this world compared to standard 256mm front disc and 54mm single piston calipers.

Hopefully pics come out. had a few issues with photobucket recently:
New chargecooler fans installed. Have to wait and see if this improves hot weatherperformance.

Discs are now288mm offearly A4 redrilled for the 4x 108pcd.
Amazingly the carrier bolted straight on for the A4 calipers
A4 calipers much bigger as is pad area:

Yes have the 3B. In hindsight I should have moved the battery to under the back seat:rock:

I am also find it a little strange that the A4 brake carrier bolted straight on, do you know the fixing bolt centers on you hub ( 76mm or 94mm)? are you using 15" or 16" wheels with the A4 288mm front disc setup? I take it you are using the A4 caliper, single piston, what is the size of the piston? I moved the battery to boot near side, cut the battery tray off the engine bay fire wall and welded it to the boot floor and fitted hold down bracket as well, keep up the good work.

This looks interesting, you'll have to keep me up to speed with this...

looking at your new discs, Im trying to figure out how you've been able to drill the 4x108 bolt pattern from a 5x112 disc?

Colin Aitchison 30-12-17 10:15 AM

Very easy.

Thanks Colin, most appreciated.

I was wondering, as the witness marks on Dave's disc were puzzling me.

Ah yes, forgot that when I did the original upgrade to 280mm (the disc on floorin pic) I swapped the struts for the early series 3 80 struts, identical in every way except they came with the larger carrier mounting:tup: Yes still using 15" Ronal R8, had to take off 1mm from the inside bottom of the wheel as carrier catching (Get a pic later), the G60's I tried some years ago were far worse in this respect which is why I retained the original calipers until now... Piston looks similar size but pad area much larger and should stop the brake fade

Oh Alternator seems to be sorted with change of regulator, now kicking out 13.75V. Slowly getting through list.
Going to Speak to AutoMark tomorrow in Middlesborough about final re-map once back on road, hope to get it upto 450bhp now brakes will soon be sorted:tup:
