Oil Consumption, MB engine code

I'm using my Quattro quite a lot at the moment. Yesterday I topped up the oil yesterday for I think the first time since it last big service in 2017. That was about 3000 miles ago, and it needed about a 1/4 – 1/2 litre. How much oil should these engines burn, in the normal course of things?

Although I've had urQuattros for 20 years now this is the first one I've had where the engine hasn't belonged to the "should really be rebuilt" category, so I don't really know what's normal.

My MB only used about quarter of a litre between changes. Once a year regardless of miles - usually about 7k. Miles were 185k when purchased

After a rebuild with new pistons, it didn't use any but the usage dropped right down to a few k

OK, thanks Mike. I'll keep an eye on it. Not making any smoke at all, and running very sweetly. I'm at 68,000 on an unrebuilt engine.

My modded 20Vt uses about 1/2litre every 3000miles, no smoke or anything else. Now done 12k miles since I rebuilt it. Interested to know what standard is if there is one !
