Car Cover usage
 

Silly question, I have a proper outdoor all weather Covercraft car cover, but is it better to -

a) - secure the car cover tightly to the car to prevent the cover moving against the body or -
b) - secure the car cover to the car and ground to allow air movement?

The car cover is used under a car port protected from three sides, if that makes a difference.

Thoughts on a post card please...:)

c) put the car in a garage.


Either way with a or b, you will end up with marks along the edge so your wings and roof line. Worst case, it will rub through the paint. If it's tight, whilst movement will be minimised, you'll get a lot of small movement and rubbing along the edges where it's pulled tight .
OK for a car that you don't really care about, not ok for a car which has a nice paint job.

As it's in a car port, does it actually get wet at all? If not, I would refrain from putting a cover on it at all

c - would be great but Ill need a double length garage for that.

The rain only really comes under the car port if its a strong South Westerly, alas, Wet and Windy Worthing is one long South Westerly Gale...

I have currently got it set up with 'b', which seems okay, however it does 'breath' up and down especially around the covers 'vent' which sits around the base of the windscreen area.

put some 'temporary' doors over the front of the car port?!

buy a carcoon.

I agree. I stored my ur quattro in a car port for over 5 years. It would have been better uncovered. Whilst it could get damp under there, the wind also went through it. Just make sure, when it goes under, that it's clean of salt underneath. Mine actually faired very well but I was always conscious of it.

Garaging in a nice environment is always the best but not always practical of course.

Carcoons are great and you may be able to use the indoor version within the car port.

Is it possible to attach a 'side' to the car port ( partial or almost full) thereby mitigating the prevailing SW winds?
A sheet or two of 'twinwall' stuff might be suitable?

Again you are right Al, I have looked into that, but I have a couple of minor issues. Firstly, if anything happens to the S2 or Land Rover the Ur is the first reserve, so being in storage 7miles away is not ideal, secondly, I would be a lot less likely to use it, and sadly, thirdly, what would I have to go and polish/look at when there's nothing on the telly?

Also just been looking at all weather carcoons, they look okay, anyone got first hand experience of them? Are they supplied with mains hook-up etc?
