Having bought a "waterproof" car cover from ebay (leaked through the seams first time it rained!), i'm trying to find a better alternative to an actual waterproof cover.

I have no real space outside to put up a car port, and what I seem to be heading towards is one of those folding tent type garages.
However, I've measured out the space they take up and the ones that are big enough to fit a QT in are too big for the space I have.

I am wondering if it would be possible to build a car cover, 16 feet long, 6 feet high with four support posts that I could build around the car. I could bolt the support feet to the concrete, and use some kind of plastic sheeting above to protect the car from the rain/snow. Perhaps that thick rectangular tube type plastic (IYKWIM) would be strong and could stand being unbuilt every month or so. Part of my plan is to use the car a month, then "garage" it, and repeat...

Ideally, i could wrap the sides with plastic.

Its all a bit of a pipe dream at the moment, but I want to keep the car at my house and protect it as much as i can.
Any brilliant thoughts welcomed!

I thnk i need a rectangular box made out of square steel tubing, bolted to the ground, with a roof made of this type of stuff:

A careful design, with the uprights able to be removed, would give me a great "mini car port" for the winter months, with a quick removal system for the top part, and the ground part bolted to the floor.

Have you looked at Machine Mart? Don't have any experience with this item but have thought about it many times. They look quite substantial, any one else tried them?

I bought a folding awning. Telescopic legs, scissor frame, cloth cover. Can be pegged down. It was wide enough to cover the V8. I’m fairly certain there were various sizes capable of taking an entire car. Same basic design as the marquee/awnings that qoc invested in. I opted for just enough to provide cover for the end of the car that I was working on.
But it’s not good enough in serious gale force weather.

Be careful with cheaper versions. A guy on the S2 Forum near me had a cheap one over his car. It broke up in a storm and caused considerable damage to his very nice A4 Quattro :sad:

Ah thanks Dave. You've seen the space i have to put this up... this would block light from the house, so is not really a go-er.
I just need a small box type thing that i can build round it-minimal size-so i can keep it protected.
I think a home-build is the only real way forward, so i can get it precisely the size i need.

Have you considered using a frame of scaffolding parts which can be sized to your exact required dimensions and then hang the necessary covers around the frame?

That would certainly be sturdy enough, and add a fair crack of security too!

Just add a plastic roof...a little rougher than using smaller box sectioned tubing, but worth considering.
