Collets

Hi guys, i need collets for the valve stem guides on my WR engined UR, can anyone help?

tks

If you mean the valve spring collets they are the same on all the 5 cylinder and 4 cylinder VW cars with shimed tappets part number 056109651

Surely someone on here will know if they are the same as fitted to the later 6 cylinder cars as they also use the triple ridge collets they certainly look the same and are readily available

Go to item 15
2 versions-
056109651
113109651A

Then select info on the right, to see which other vehicles it's used on.

(I've no idea really if there is a difference between the pre and post 85-B chassis.)

Any good?

I'd bet money on them being the same, pretty sure the WR used the same valves as the golf, I know that the later 16v golf and 20v NA audi 5 cylinder shared the same valves so I guess the 8v and 10v engnes share the same top end parts as the 12v V6 they certainly look the same.

I know there are a few differences, the 1.8 DZ engine had a slightly larger valve head than its VW equivalent, but I'm sure the stems and therefore collets, will be identical.

Many thanks guys, the head is off my WR at the mo, the gasket went between pots 3 & 4.

Luckily the history is good so I can see that the head was refurbished by BR Motorsport in 1992 and it another refurb about 8 years ago, which was only 3 or 4 thousand miles ago.

So will get some collets ordered and compare, will post some pics later on

Replacement Head

:cryin:
Got word back from the workshop a couple of hour ago, the cylinder head from WR 10 Valve is dead, failed its pressure test miserably and cannot be repaired. :wall:

I have to ask if anyone has a WR 10V head they would be willing to sell me, distance no object.

Second question, is the cylinder head the same as any other 2.1 5 pot of the same era?

Forelorn Hope

I'm just going through this myself.

Any 10v fuel injected mechanical head will be a suitable donor, and then transfer the components over. My WR is actually running a KG head, which I then had refurbished.
The base casting part number is 035103373AD. This is the number which appears cast in, on the left hand side of the head, just below the cam cover surface. It's then machined and prepped to suit the application.

Based on discussions recently with a fella wot knows his stuff, a normally aspirated head will have the additional value of not having been stressed quite as hard as a turbo head.

Don't scrap the old head just yet, though.
My WRs original head is actually quite rough, but may still be recoverable, subject to a lot of serious work.
