I'd be more than happy with rain. I'm heartily sick of chipping the car out every morning. I hate cold weather at the best of times. Give me a hot beach any day

can't ya scrape some off the underside of the 90?!?!?!!:p:moon:

The West Sussex CC gritters are brilliant, the roundabout at Patching, where the depot is, just next to the A27 is like Pendine Sands this time of year, you're more likely to spin on the marble sized grit than ever get caught out by the ice or snow...

The rest of the county just fends for itself, under a blacket of sheet ice...

I really like this kind of weather myself, cold/frosty/snowy but bright and dry.
Even though I did go arse-over-tit in the car park this morning, much to the mirth of a mate at work! :o

funnily enough I haven't noticed my summer tyres giving me any problems :finger: mind you I am in an Astra at the moment. The Volvo is dead and the lease company is as much as useless trying to get her to the garage.

To cut a long story short:

Last week car develops intermittent problems, all sorts of warning lights. Car fails to start twice.

Call RAC. Arrive and the car starts. Albeit with ABS, traction control and other warnings saying the car needs to be serviced. RAC refuse to take her to garage as she is driveable. I should arrange with dealership to recover car

Decide to treat kids to curry. All pile into Volvo...refuses to start, Emjay proceeds to see own arse :wall::wall:

Phone Volvo Warrington, book car in for service this coming Thursday but they cant recover the car as it's leased and the lease company has to sort it

As I need to get kids back to Nottingham urgently, arrange for hire car after giving up on the Volvo.

Today I phone the lease company, explain the situation. First thing they do is transfer me to RAC. In a queue for ten minutes, swear and give up. Saw my arse :fire::fire:

Phone lease company again and complain. They put me through to fleet service department. They offered to put me through to RAC. I refused point blank and after much discussion made the position totally clear.
  1. the car is not driveable
  2. RAC won't take her away if she starts up
  3. I haven't got any more time to fanny about
  4. I want them to arrange to have the car recovered to the dealership
  5. I don't want to speak to anybody else aprt from the company collecting the car
Right.....sorted. Get a phone call back about 3.30 from the lease company. They were on the phone as we speak to the RAC and they will recover the car. Fan...bloody..tastic

How wrong could I have been. RAC man fones me at 6pm tonite. On me way Mr Johnson, be with you in ten. OK

Turns up on time, turns the engine, car starts. A few strange errors but cars starts. The following conversation ensues

"Sorry mate can't take your car, its started"

"You are supposed to take it irrespective, thats what I told Daimler Chrysler I wanted"

"Oh, well I can't take it anyway as I don't have a trailer hitch"

"So what have they (Daimler chrysler) told you?"

"It's a non start roadside assistance"

"Did they tell you you have to take the car to Warrington Volvo?"

"No, why?"

"Because thats what you are here to do, recover the car and take her to Volvo Warrington"

"No I wasn't told that, I was told it's a roadside breakdown and to get you going, as the car works sign here please"

I saw my arse again....tomorrow I am going to see it again and share the experience with Daimler Chrysler :fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire:

aye...so old I keep a tartan blanket in t'car just in case :moon:

Audiden 04-01-10 10:02 PM

My 80's road holding is pretty rubbish compared to that of my last car, a Mk3 Cavalier that was tremendous in the snow. The 80 motors along but I daren't do anything remotely silly, as soon as you touch the throttle the wheels just want to spin.

The 90 is worse but the on/off clutch action doesn't help & the tyres are needing replaced - side wall damage to 2 of them, lowish tread on the other 2.

Coldest December since 1995 apparently... remember getting my snow driving practice in my first car - a 1985 Honda Accord. That was great in the snow. Looking forward to good weather again, whenever it comes, 2 weeks away at best according to a BBC weatherman.

It's all your fault, you've been praying for snow ever since you took delivery of those winter tyres! We'd still be having our Indian Summer if it wasn't for you!
