Greetings/Pictures from Krakow

Been here in Krakow for 3 days now and so far, we haven't seen one single car wash!!!

Had lots of Tyskie (Polish lager!), been down the salt mines, seen lots of series 3 Audi 80's (many of which are taxi's which put the 200k club to shame!!)
Stunning city and would recommend it to anyone!

back home tomorrow though :(

Hello back.
My great grandad on my mother's side came from the outskirts of Krakow in the 1900's.
Never been, they say it's lovely, historical, and quite reasonable to stay at.

Have you tried the sausages? :moon:

I was there last year, and seen a mint Berlin registered RR and two mint 200 quattros. Lovely city. I was lucky as the missus is Polish, and so knew the places to go and see etc. Coudn't believe the amount of little Fiat 126s there. I remember getting a taxi, and the rank was full of half decent Merc E Class taxis and I deliberately went and got in the shittiest FSO Polonez I have ever seen. It was great!

The missus' family on her fathers side comes from Zakopane approx 60KMS south of Krakow. Absolutely beautiful scenery.

We're right next to the main square and there's sausages and mulled wine everywhere!
Yup, Fiat 126's must have bread here!!
Food is superb and reasonable as well.

my wife is half polish been to krakow before salt mines are good, especialy the church carved out of the salt, you aint far from auschwitz! well worth the visit, especially birkenhaus, the really big camp, just how the germans left it ( its the one where all the famous pics of the railway line takes them in thru a gatehouse) awesome spent a whole day there!!!!! go go go best thing by far. also bet youve already done the church/castle? been up the bell tower? seen all the ancient kings caskets of poland? lovely place

dandan 01-12-09 11:03 AM

oh yea and i bet youve noticed all the women are gorgeous and i bet they all got 'f**k me' boots on!!??

dandan 01-12-09 11:07 AM

roads are lethal to drive on, we normally stay in lodz (prenounced woutch) another city some drive from krakow, the 'motorways' have peasants selling cherries and mushroom along them and loads of prostitutes, its an odd country in places, you should try having to visit relatives there all they do is drink vodka, its the same as we drink tea, people visit you put kettle on, oh no there they open vodka even at 8am/9am, go to a lidl or tesco they have whole isles for different vodka, also i couldnt get me head around the polish tesco having a pet store in it selling all live animals.

well, we had a wonderful time, that's for sure!!

another one of the cities of Europe that I want to visit, finally crossed off.

Next will either be Bucharest, Tallinn or Riga or Madrid but just for the graffiti.

BIGGYIN 01-12-09 08:59 PM

Excellent pics.
Been to Praha (Prague)with the Ex-wife about 20 years ago.All squares in East Europe must look the same??Lovely place, especially at night.Looked like something out of a fairy tale.
We where going to go over the border to Poland and visit the Camps, but the queue to the border was too long. The locals said it was because they search every car for drugs and guns.:yikes:(We where on a tight schedule)
For some reason I didn,t take a camera,I can,t remember why??
I did over 3,000 miles,in my 1st Oceanic blue q90.Some lovely scenery and some of the roads were great to drive on.
I might go back next year, but take longer this time.(and take camera)
I had a thought of driving across to The Red Square???
