very early Audi 80 parts!
Any leads or info for anyone who may have some very early Audi 80 parts for the 1968 Variant. Wings especially!
All leads appreciated and anyone who can point me into the direction of anyone who can shed some light on to these models would also be appreciated. |
Coxy speak to my mate Stefan Winkler at Audihof@gmx.de, say you have spoken to me. He lives in deepest darkest Bavaria but has a warehouse (yes) of spares for these. If you dont plan doing much to it before Oct, I can pick the bits up from him. I might even be going over for a Audi meet before then so let me know.

I'll get a list of what's needed and see if he can help out. He maybe the same chap who has the wings. If it is he did say he wouldn't post and would prefer them picked up. Sounds like an excuse to go to over for the Oktoberfest! Would like to make a start on her asap but I've got a feeling that it's not going to be that straight forward. |
Yep think parts for those are virtually non existant but there are many more abroad. I go over to see Stefan a couple of times a year. I take my van across to Mannheim autojumble in Oct so can pick up bits from him. You can also try www.dk-autoteile.de, they do handmade repair panels along with other early Audi stuff but they aint cheap with the Euro so high and they won't post to UK.

ahhh crap! Knew I should have opted for German instead of French at school!
I mean I was hardly ever going to get into Citroens when I grew up was I!?!? That said, my first 2 cars were Peugeots!! Alta Vista Babelfish here we come! |
At GCSE my german tutor was half german himself... He gave me some wise words:
"If your caught talking to a german and he can't understand you say, Heile! a few times, point at the sky and smile.... if that doesn't work say 'Sie verloren den Krieg' "..... |
Hahahahahahahah Roflmao :p

I've always found the perfect ice breaker to be a phrase taught to me by an old RAF staff sargeant and wag I used to work with
" Mein esel auf den niveauubergang gelotet worden" This was taught to the new recruits for formal presentations when they were meeting local mayors or geilt meisters on bases after the war, it means; "My donkey has been killed on a level crossing" As can be guessed it always causes great hilarity |
does this guy speak English at all?
Desperately need a pair of wings off him as the car goes for resto the week after Easter. |
Coxy, Stefan speaks English did I give you his e-mail? I was speaking to him yesterday so he is around

I did send an email to xxxx(not sure) but not to Audihof@gmx.de
I'll do that when I get home later. I do have a back up plan as the Variant is going in for resto after easter and I was going to use the wings off the 70 I'm picking up at the weekend and then I'll have more time to get the wings sorted. Downside of that is taking original wings with original paint off the car. |

always come in handy and I doubt they'd have them in stock at Wolves Audi or me local parts factors on the Stafford Road!

Just had a reply back from Stefan! Looks like he's going to be able to help with just about everything!

Yep he's a nice gent. He should be able to supply all your needs. I do not know what it is with some German suppliers they seem to dislike sending anything internationally??? I'm sure though that if you need to buy stuff for the 80 Stefan would be willing to be used as a postal address and I can pick up when I next see him
Or Ryanair, I know it was actually cheaper at one point for me to go over and bring a load of sill panels back as luggage rather than get them posted!!! You should have seen German customs faces when they went through the x-ray machine, they had a fit, poor soles couldn't work out why a mad englishman would want to go to Germany and bring back old Audi bits! |

I'm not sure now what the rules are for importing parts, as part of the EU, I'd assume there is no duty payable for items purchased in Germany (car panels etc). Is this right? Or is there a limit to the value you can bring in?
Don't know, but have considered doing something similar for some plastic panels. |
Not sure either myself.
I've been stung in the past when buying in spares from the US but never when buying from Germany. That said, I've only ever bought from Mittelmotor in Germany once before anyway and that weren't for a large amount really. Here's a link to Stefan's site in Germany http://www.audi-classic.de/ and a translation of the home page (Babelfish style!!) Quote:

Don't belive that there is any restriction on used parts from EU only on complete vehicles and not at point of entry. I go over every year to autojumbles and often bring back a van load of bits (my mate deals in old VW van bits). Never got stopped once at uk customs. The only time I've ever been stopped is by German border guards at the Czech border, the Czech's couldn't be bothered but the 70's maustached German cop in his tight fitting leather bomber jacket made us unload the van!
German traffic police always pull me up for driving my transit and trailer on a Sunday (not allowed over a certain weight limit), but never quite know what to do with you once they've stopped you (meant to stop you driving the van until 10pm). "Sorry don't speak German, what a strange law" Much talking between the officers basically "we can't wait round here guarding these gypo's " "Err sir that will be 60 euro fine, but please don't drive the van for 15mins until we are out of the area and please don't show this ticket to the next officers if you get stopped otherwise we will get in trouble for not arresting you!" Strange country |
