I have had a idea though, my mate owns a breakers yard, he has a porka boxter s engine out of a recka..... can you see were im going with this. Will a porsche engine fit in a beetle!! He will let me have the engine for a monkey. What do you reckon guys.
I know I will have to change gearing etc, what else will need to be changed?

SteveT63 11-09-09 08:17 PM

Typical timewasters. For every decent buyer there's a dozen time wasters.
You won't get a boxster engine to fit in to a beetle. There's a chap down the road from me who's shoehorned an air cooled flat 6 into a bug and that involved a helluva lot of modification. The boxster engine is watercooled and even more of an effort to even attempt to fit than is practially worthwhile.
If you want cheap power in a bug, put a subaru engine in!

poopcoupe 11-09-09 08:37 PM

Scooby engine is a Flat 4, same configuration as an air cooled VW engine.

Adaptor plate for the box to engine and a custom loom, oh and a discreetly located radiator!

Here's a pic of the flat 6 in the chaps down from me's bug

Firewall has been moved about 5 inches forward to accommodate.
