Prices of old Fords just keep rising!

Spotted a 1973 MK1 Escort 1300L on ebay tonight with 7k miles from new. It's already at £9,300 and there is 8 days left on the auction! Recession? What recession? Wished I'd mothballed my XR3i now.....

I have seen loads of RS2000 MK2s go for silly, silly money. They sell straight away, too. Makes quattros seem a bargain!

daren 01-09-09 02:31 PM

A mate of mine just sold a 1300 mark1 escort rolling shell for £8000 wish i'd kept mine too:nonod:

BW2309 01-09-09 03:37 PM

Compared to spending £10k on a Ford ANY quattro's a bargain!!! :lol::lol:

.....Sorry, I shall be quiet!!

The two door escorts are being snapped up for their shells to make rally cars or recreations, when we went to sutties last year they had a low milage two base model mark one that was mint destined for it

styler 01-09-09 07:16 PM

ESCORTS.....dont talk to me about escorts.... have two of the f**kers.... and another on a jig for rebuilding... were making good money about 2 years ago... seems to have slowed down a bit now... plenty sheet metal and rally prep parts available though... wish audi 90 panels were as easy come by....

this time last year I was looking at early Sierra XR4i's as a good entry into the fast Ford club before I finally ended up with the coupe. You could get a half decent on for about £1500 or therabouts.

Fast forward 12 months and similar is now pushing £2500 plus. Did I do the right thing going Audi??:rolleyes:

thats spooky, on my way home tonight i glanced over to a back street garage and saw a paintshop with a guy flatting a white XR4i , first one i have seen in ages, from the look of the other car he was working on it was destined to get two tonne of Upol thrown at it

baron2211 01-09-09 08:24 PM

Reserve not met? At over 10k? It may be a Mk 1 escort, but its a 1.3, which means drum breaks and next to no performance. Nice to look at though........... See what happens....

Bloody hell, 11 or 12? I have owned six Series 3 90s, and four of them were Sports!

Its the same with parts for Lotus, I can get everything for my 1972 Europa Twin Cam, including new Chassis, Complete Shell and Burr Walnut Dashboards if you want one !!!!!

And you dont get ripped off for them, they are all reasonably priced.

Kenquattro 04-09-09 12:18 PM

I was amazed at the NLA situation on parts for My C Plate MK3 EScort XR3i. When you consider how common they were new, you would have thought there was a large availability of parts still available. Couldn't be more wrong. One of the reasons I got rid of it. Then the problem with all the second hand spares is that they are as bad as the ones you wish to replace in the first place. Another catch 22 situation. It put me off having an older car to play with, hence I just have my daily driver A6 now. But you never know what crops up for sale!
